Taking Life Slow (A Day at the Blueberry Farm)

Taking Life Slow (A Day at the Blueberry Farm)

Over the weekend, we met up with some friends at a local U-Pick blueberry farm.

It seems like many weekends lately we have had lots of things going on – baseball games, housekeeping, travel, etc. This might have been a ‘scheduled’ plan, but it was actually really nice to take things at a slower pace and watch the children enjoy themselves without worrying about the next place we needed to get to.

We had a chat before we started about the honor system and how berries should go in the buckets, not bellies. I will admit that we did sample a little – how could you not? – but for the most part everyone followed the rules.

The weather was perfect, and the children had a great time running, picking, and playing. The adults followed behind, chatting and dutifully carrying buckets while making our way through the rows.

After a few hours with five people and three buckets, we ended up with almost 10 pounds of blueberries! To say that we are up to our eyeballs in berries is almost true. I spent most of the afternoon rinsing and picking off stray stems to prepare them for freezing.

If you have a favorite blueberry recipe….PLEASE let me know!!
